Lewis County Sheriff
Matt Tiller
Matt Tiller was appointed Sheriff by the Lewis County Board of Commissioners to fill the remaining term of retired Sheriff Dwayne Kilpatrick on February 24th, 2025. Sheriff Kilpatrick served Lewis County for 30 years as Sheriff and retired as of December 31, 2024. Upon retirement, Matt Tiller as Chief Deputy became Acting Sheriff until his official appointment as Interim Sheriff in 2025.
The Lewis County Sheriff's Office provides a full range of law enforcement services such as patrol, investigations, warrant service, courtroom security, reserve deputies, and the operation of the Jail Facility and enjoys a close working relationship with the other municipal, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. The Sheriff's Office is headquartered in Hohenwald, the county seat.

A sheriff’s job is not to write new laws or burden the taxpayers with undue taxes, but rather to enforce compliance with the statutes enacted by our lawmakers.
